The collection contains personal papers and correspondence relating to Mrs. Marilynn Barks' life in Alaska. The personal papers include insurance policies and receipts, and tax forms. The correspondence series contains letters from Mrs. Barks to her husband, Mr. Wickersham, her brother Jack Kells, other relatives, neighbors, and business associates. The majority of the letters concern her husband and his work in the mines. She discusses conditions in Anchorage during World War II, and comments on the conditions her husband faced as a mine worker.

Mrs. Marilynn Barks was born about 1901. She lived in Alaska from the early 1940s through the 1960s. She was married to Americus "Gus" Barks who worked with several mining operations on the Kenai Peninsula and in the interior. Mrs. Barks performed clerical work for Lebrun Wickersham, who ran the mines where Gus was employed, and nursed him in his old age. Charles Seaton Harvard was born on October 28, 1892, in Medway Station, Hamilton County, Kansas. His railroad career began in 1912 when he was employed by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company as an engineer. By 1928, Mr. Harvard moved from his home in Seattle, Washington to Anchorage, Alaska.
